The Song of the Day: Weezer’s Hootenanny

06/24:  Song of the Day.  Weezer–Say It Ain’t So

hootenanny:  a meeting of folk singers, as for public entertainment.

So as the band Weezer has been moving through their West Coast tour in support of their new Red Album, they’ve been inviting local musicians, singers, and music fans in general to join them for a special hootenanny performance along the way.  The hootenannies have been recorded live during the day in each city of the tour and then broadcast over local radio stations.

The Song of the Day: Seeing Red

May 12:  Song of the Day.  Weezer–The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)

I don’t know how many Weezer fans we have out there, but I’d hope there are a few readers who are looking forward to the band’s latest effort which is due in stores on June 24.  The brand new self-titled album, in keeping with the band’s previous color-themed self-titled releases (The Blue Album in 1993 and later, The Green Album in 2000) is being called The Red Album.  The ten track release (which includes 4 bonus tracks on the Deluxe and iTunes versions) was produced by Rick Rubin and is the band’s sixth album to date.
