With the exception of the recently announced additions of Kenny Rogers and the George Thorogood and Buddy Guy show to the Charlottesville Pavilion’s concert line-up, things have been pretty quiet on the ‘who’s coming to town’ front. So as a subtle and subliminal reminder, I thought I would call to order another meeting of our little My Morning Jacket Lobbying Committee. Although there has been no official announcement as of yet from the folks at the Charlottesville Pavilion, a quick check of Charlottesville concert listings at Pollstar.comreveals that George Thorogood and the Destroyersand the legendary Buddy Guyhave been added to the Pavilion’s summer concert series. To be sure, I popped on to Thorogood’s own website and the date has been confirmed there as well. The scheduled date is Tuesday, August 12. This gives Charlottesville blues fan yet another reason to celebrate. The Thorogood/Guy show comes just six days after B.B. King’s scheduled performance on Wednesday, August 6.
In other Pavilion-related news, the date for the Black Crowesperformance is now set. That show is going to be at the Pavilion on Saturday, July 5. Tickets go on sale May 2nd at 10am. And if you haven’t had a chance to check these guys out, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will be opening for the Robinson brothers. They are amazing!!!

Now that the Pavilion has announced a large chunk of their upcoming concert schedule, I feel as if it’s time I officially announce my one-man lobbying campaign to get My Morning Jacket to come to Charlottesville this summer and blow the baggie off the Pavilion. We’ve had the Flaming Lips here and we’ve had Wilco here two years in a row. It’s time people, it’s time for My Morning Jacket.
Early last week ARTISTdirect announced the finalized track listing for the new MMJ album Evil Urges, which is due to hit stores on June 2. I am hoping that a new album is a precursor to a full blown tour later this year.
As it stands now only a hanful of MMJ show dates have been announced including Mexico City on 4/12, the Coachella Music Festival on 4/27, Bonnaroo on 6/12 - 15, and Radio City Music Hall in NYC on 6/20.
In the meantime, I’ll keep my positive MMJ vibrations flowing with the hopes that maybe, just maybe we’ll see them here this summer. With that in my mind, here’s a little something from last year’s Lollapalooza. It’s a pretty cool music video and a unique way to capture a live performance.

While they appear to be appealing to an older demographic (translation high cost of tickets), there are a few gems throughout the list. You be the judge.
