To say that I’ve been looking forward to My Morning Jacket’s performance at the Charlottesville Pavilion would be an understatement. This was one show that I was psyched to see! I wasn’t living in Charlottesville at the time of the band’s last visit to town (at Starr Hill Music Hall in January of 2004) and to be honest this was my first time ever seeing My Morning Jacket perform live in person. (which is why I started my own My Morning Jacket Lobbying Committee in the first place)
Up to this point I had read all the press reports and I had all heard the first hand accounts about what a great live band My Morning Jacket is, but I needed to see it to believe it. Well, I’ve seen it and now I believe it. These guys are definitely worthy of the title of America’s Best Live Band. [concert recap, along with more photos and the full set list after the break]
August 26: Song of the Day. My Morning Jacket–Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2
Here’s another really cool animated video that has popped up in recent days, this time for one of my favorite tunes off of My Morning Jacket’s latest album Evil Urges. (And you guys know how much I love the animation and the My Morning Jacket.) In this new video for “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2) both the look of the video and the song itself are both really well done. I’ll be interested to see what you guys think.
We’re just a little over a week away from the band’s upcoming performance at the Charlottesville Pavilion on Thursday, September 4. Tickets are still available for this general admission show being billed simply as “An Evening With My Morning Jacket”. For ticket info click here. Gates open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. 06/07: Song of the Day. My Morning Jacket–I’m Amazed
Good morning campers! Time to rise and shine. I have to admit that I’m a little more chipper than normal mainly because I’ve managed to escape the oppressive heat of central Virginia for the mountains of western Virginia (where it’s a good 10 - 15 degrees cooler). So this weekend as I’m blogging from my secret mountain retreat, I thought I’d give you guys the first look, and maybe for some, the first listen to a fantastic cut off the forthcoming Evil Urges album from My Morning Jacket, which again, goes on sale this coming Tuesday (June 10).
Let me know what you think. Be cool everybody. (video after the jump) »Read More
We’ve learned that the Charlottesville Pavilion is set to officially announce that My Morning Jacket has been added to their concert line-up this summer! Now that the venue is on the verge of announcing the show, we can tell you that the Jim James and the boys will be coming to town on Tuesday, September 2. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 16. This promises to be one unbelievable show!!!
As I mentioned in our initial announcement post last night, you can catch My Morning Jacket this weekend as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. The band will be releasing their forthcoming album Evil Urges on June 10 on ATO Records.
As it stands now, my Summer Wish List is getting smaller by the day:
My Morning Jacket Andrew Bird Modest Mouse
Drive By Truckers
Los Lobos
The Avett Brothers
Now that the Pavilion has announced a large chunk of their upcoming concert schedule, I feel as if it’s time I officially announce my one-man lobbying campaign to get My Morning Jacket to come to Charlottesville this summer and blow the baggie off the Pavilion. We’ve had the Flaming Lips here and we’ve had Wilco here two years in a row. It’s time people, it’s time for My Morning Jacket.
Early last week ARTISTdirect announced the finalized track listing for the new MMJ album Evil Urges, which is due to hit stores on June 2. I am hoping that a new album is a precursor to a full blown tour later this year.
As it stands now only a hanful of MMJ show dates have been announced including Mexico City on 4/12, the Coachella Music Festival on 4/27, Bonnaroo on 6/12 - 15, and Radio City Music Hall in NYC on 6/20.
In the meantime, I’ll keep my positive MMJ vibrations flowing with the hopes that maybe, just maybe we’ll see them here this summer. With that in my mind, here’s a little something from last year’s Lollapalooza. It’s a pretty cool music video and a unique way to capture a live performance.
