The Black Crowes @ Charlottesville Pavilion 07.05.08

Black Crowes

It rained and it poured.  And then it decided to rain some more.  As I drove up 5th Street on Saturday evening, heading towards the Downtown Mall to catch the Black Crowes show at the Charlottesville Pavilion, I wasn’t even sure if I was going to make it there or not.  The summer thunderstorm that rolled into town on Saturday was said to have dumped up to two inches of rain an hour and from what I saw, I believe it.  To be honest, I wasn’t even sure that this show was going to fly.

Luckily for me and the couple thousand people that braved the elements, the concert wasn’t cancelled (although it did get started about a half hour later than scheduled).  I say luckily for good reason, because from what I saw Saturday night, this was the best show I’ve seen at the Pavilion so far this summer.  The Black Crowes are definitely back!

Just because the Fourth of July falls on Friday does not mean that the fireworks are over for the weekend here in Charlottesville.  Case in point:  The next big show coming up at the Charlottesville Pavilion featuring The Black Crowes with opening guests Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.  The Crowes, who just kicked off their 90-date North America tour on June 28th, will be lighting up the July 4th weekend in Charlottesville on Saturday, July 5th.  Tickets for the show are still available.  For more info, click here.

[After the break, check out the Black Crowes’ recent performance of “Wounded Bird” on Late Night with David Letterman.]
