Today, my day started as they all have over the past week since cvilleMUSE began last Wednesday. I reluctantly stumble out of bed, make my way to the coffee pot, pour its contents down my throat, and eventually make my way to the computer to see where things stand. (Which means: What am I going to write about today)
First I pop on the MUSE to see if anyone has added any new comments to the wildly entertaining and enlightening posts I have written over the past couple days. Then, with tears in my eyes, I check out the local blogs and news sources to see what I’ve missed while I’ve been sleeping. Who knows, maybe Van Halen has decided to add three more Charlottesville tour dates to make up for the two previously cancelled shows, only to cancel the new dates because the band realized they can’t be in Akron, OH and Charlottesville at the same time. Of course, we learn later that the Akron show has been cancelled as well.
From there it’s on to a number of music sites and blogs to see what’s happening in the world of music in general. For example, today I learned that Janet Jackson’s new album, in addition to being released on CD, is also coming out on 180g audiophile quality vinyl. Hooray!
After another pot of coffee, I finally check my email to see what appointments I may have forgotten, whether my loan was approved so that I can continue to support my favorite presidential candidate, and to find out what the current going rate of Viagra is these days. To my surprise I find an email there that begins with the following salutation: “Dear All Knowing Muse”. My immediate response was “I couldn’t have said it better myself”. But right after that the confusion begins. The body of the message contained the following:
Any idea what time Truman Sparks will actually begin playing tonight? Are they opening or headlining?

A reader wanted to make sure we didn’t forget about this show taking place this evening in Charlottesville.
William Walter & Co. bring the rock, the blues, and the jam to R2 at Rapture tonight. The Company will be in full force. So should you. Show starts at 10pm and there is no cover. Thanks Tito for the heads up!

There are a couple of shows in town tonight that may make for a rather full evening of entertainment for the intrepid music fan.
Start off your evening at the Gravity Lounge with a heavy dose of lightning paced acoustic music from Trampled by Turtles. Doors at 8. Cost is $8. (See yesterday’s Trampled by Turtles post for more)
From there you could head over to the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar for a shot of ragged rock with The Gunshy. Joe Anderi opens. Show time is 9pm. Cost is a suggested donation of $3-7.
Finish off the evening by jumping in the car and heading down to the Corner to catch Sarah White and the Sam Wilson Band at Orbit Billiards. Show time is 10:30pm and it’s FREE.
Happy trails music fans! So much to see, so little time. Maybe I’ll see you out at the shows. And just in case you haven’t seen The Gunshy, you can now consider yourself informed.

It appears as if the rest of the world continues to celebrate what we in Charlottesville already knew: There is a ton of musical talent in our fair hamlet! In April of 2007, local singer-songwriter Devon Sproule released her most recent album Keep Your Silver Shined to rave reviews. Almost a year later those rave reviews just keep coming in.

For a town of just over 40,000 people, Charlottesville’s music scene surpasses that of many cities two and three times its size. Sure there have been a few setbacks over the past twelve months or so with the recent closings of Starr Hill Music Hall and Atomic Burrito in addition to the rumblings swirling around the fate of the Satellite Ballroom, but all in all, when you step back and take look at it, if you’re a music fan living in or around C’ville life really isn’t all that bad.
I mean seriously, extend an ear and listen. On any given night in Charlottesville you are guaranteed to find a venue playing host to either a local up-and-coming artist, a national touring act, or even the occasional music legend. And let’s not forget that guy who’s always playing the flute on the Downtown Mall. Eat your heart out Jethro Tull!
And yes, Charlottesville is both the birthplace of Presidents and the Dave Matthews Band. But let’s not forget that Stephen Malkmus of Pavement and David Berman of the Silver Jews both at one time called our fair “velvet rut” home.

Wow, I am very excited about this one. I’ve been leaking a few beans here and there to various friends, cVillains and the rest of them apples about cvilleMUSE.
All I can say is that we finally got here. Between design changes, website crashes, ad servers, writers and all that jazz, it’s been pretty wild. First off before I talk about anything, I want to thank Blue Ridge Internet Works and Darren Hoyt. Without the help of BRI and Darren, we couldn’t have launched our new sites. BRI mainly does our web hosting, but goes the extra mile to solve problems for us when we are clueless. Darren did almost all of the design work you see on the site. Darren is an amazing designer and we’re happy to have him do our site.
Now, what is cvilleMUSE?
