Before I start the last episode of this ongoing saga, I have an announcement. I regret to inform my loyal readers and random passers-by that this will be my last entry in the Chronicles. The reasons for this are varied, the biggest of which is a lack of time. I apologize if your heart is broken over this unfortunate news, but take comfort in the fact that I do promise to return occasionally to provide updates on the continued Chronicles of Newman as they unfold. I finally found my way to the Greek Theatre. It’s been a long time since then, so I couldn’t really tell you where it is. Somewhere near that big “HOLLYWOOD” sign, I think, JFGI. When I got there, I got out of my jeep and walked up to the ticket booth to ask if there were still any tickets to the show that night. Nope, it was definitely sold out. [Sorry, folks, for being a day late. I think story will be a great contrast to the tear jerker from last week.]

My alarm woke me up that Saturday morning at 7:30 because apparently, I forgot to turn it off the night before.  It happens sometimes when you’ve been out drinking all night, but I hadn’t.  I had gone to bed before the late shows even started, which is usually better, cause there’s nothing worse than waking up with the irritating whine of Jay Leno’s voice still in my head.  This morning it was the Greg Allman, thanks to a great selection by the DJ on whatever typical classic rock station I had left the radio on.  When Ramblin’ Man ended, it went right into Blue Sky, possibly my favorite Allman Brothers tune ever.  I laid there in bed under the blanket and air-guitarred the 5 minute solo note for note I had memorized by the time I was six years old.  When the song was over, I turned the radio off, making sure the alarm wasn’t going to wake me up again tomorrow, and took a big stretch before getting out of bed.  Somehow I knew this was going to be a good day.  »Read More

My dad is the oldest of six children and his family is hilarious. Every Thanksgiving we used to make the drive from Richmond to Gaithersburg, MD (just outside of DC) for a family reunion of sorts. All of my dad’s siblings have distinct and very entertaining personalities. Everyone jokes around, makes fun of each other, and laughs a lot. My sister and I would chase each other and our cousins around the house and get pillows thrown at our feet, knocking us over on the plush shag carpet. It was always a time we looked forward to. And it was in this situation that I was first introduced to the guitar.

As a freshman, I hung out with a bunch of guys in this one fraternity. They did a lot of stuff that I liked to do, mostly get drunk. And they got really drunk. I would go to their parties, get really drunk, play beer-die till I was covered in frat-basement-juice and blood, vomit in the back yard, and hit on drunk sorority chicks. Pretty typical, I think. They would get me tickets to football games, and provide the tailgate party before and after. I’d totally meat out when I was at the house. I would arm wrestle guys, and then make fun of ‘em when they lost. It was always a good time at that house. »Read More

So, last week, you heard about the ceremony.

Our wedding and reception were typical of most weddings in that it was mostly (98%) about what the bride wanted. She chose the colors, the flowers, the venues, pretty much everything. I put in my pointless two cents when it was requested, but mostly, I stayed out of the way, and just worked on my one declared decision - picking out the band - and vetoed a few small items here and there. Sorry this was late. My dog ate my homework. Er, I left it on the bus? My grandfather died, and all that. Anyway, here goes part 16.

I was just, this past weekend, the Best Man (by title only) in a wedding. It made me a little nostalgic for my own wedding, so i figured I’d post this story.

Approximately 9 months ago, I married my wife. We had a beautiful ceremony outside of Reveille Church in Richmond. There were many people who had responsibilities to take care of that day, including myself. Someone was in charge of flowers. Someone was in charge of parking. Someone was in charge of making sure the groomsmen didn’t smell like booze. Everybody came through with their responsibilities flawlessly… almost. »Read More

Chris Jamison @ Gravity Lounge
