Some great plays have already completed their runs on Charlottesville’s local stages. But, there are still plenty more to see in the coming months! My personal picks, based on nothing but my knowledge of theatre and the local community, are as follows:
Oh Crap, I Forgot to Have Kids at the Hamner Theater (10/24-10/25):
This play promises a comedic and heartwarming look into the hopes, fears, and challenges of women and motherhood.
Flyin’ West at Live Arts (10/24-11/22):
This appears to be an intriguing tale about African American women trying to carve a life in the West in 1898.
Oklahoma! at UVa (11/200-12/5):
I would like to see this one simply because it’s a theatrical classic, and the first musical to open with a solo instead of a big chorus number.
Sweeney Todd at Live Arts (12/12-1/10):
This is sort of a cult classic in theatrical circles, as well as one of Sondheim’s most well-known shows. The musical is different than the movie, so if you saw last year’s release, don’t come expecting to see the exact same thing.
Future Sketch/Laugh Sounds at Play On! (1/15-1/25):
This promises to be a varied and hilarious show, completely created by local Charlottesville actors.
If you have any others to add, feel free to post!
