If you’re a fan of Jeff Tweedy and his band Wilco then it’s been a pretty good week.  Just in case you missed it, here are a couple of the treasures I’ve recently discovered.

[There’s a link to a free download of a Tweedy solo show, news of a new Wilco album, and sweet solo performance of “Sunken Treasure” all after the break]

First off, early last week the folks at the fabulous L.A.-based music website Aquarium Drunkard posted a special live Jeff Tweedy solo performance from January of 2006.  The show, one of three the Wilco frontman performed as part of the Letters to Santa charity event, was recorded in a living room before a very limited audience.  You can download the entire 2 hour performance free of charge here.

Then on Monday, Tweedy told an upstate New York radio station that Wilco is set to release a brand new studio album sometime in the Spring of 2009.  The yet to be named album will be Wilco seventh studio release since Tweedy first formed the group from the ashes of the seminal alt-country band Uncle Tupelo back in 1995.

Maybe it’s a little pre-mature to already begin talking about the Pavilion line-up for 2009, but having Wilco in Charlottesville in April or May of next year and armed with an album’s worth of new songs sure would be a great way to kick off spring.  (Yes, even in spite of the fact that Tweedy and/or Wilco have performed three times in town since ‘06).

The final gem in the treasure chest is this live solo acoustic performance of Jeff Tweedy performing “Sunken Treasure” on a stage in front of an empty theater.  Enjoy!
