I know the work-week has just begun and but I’m already mapping out my upcoming week in music. One of my planned stops around the Charlottesville music scene this week will find me heading downtown to The Box (formerly The Atomic Burrito) to catch a sweet three-band bill on Wednesday, August 6.
The line-up includes special guest opener Joe Pollock (Jay Pun of Lasko & Pun called Pollock “one to watch” in the Charlottesville music scene), Panther Burn (led by Phillip St. Ours on guitar and vocals and featuring Aaron Farrington on bass), and headlining act Keith Morris and the Crooked Numbers (whose debut album Songs from Candyapolis from late 2007 is still one of the finest albums I’ve heard in quite some time. You can read my review of Candyapolis here.)

Wednesday’s show at The Box gets underway at 10pm and the word on the street is that Paul Curreri may sit in as a guest musician with both Panther Burn and the Crooked Numbers. It should be a great night of live, local music! What’s on your dance card for the upcoming week here in Charlottesville? [live video performance from Keith Morris and the Crooked Numbers below]

Yeah, Don’t St. Ours and Farrington know how to Google? Panther Burn is a Memphis band that’s been around for 30+ years. Tav Falco is gonna get you! http://www.arthurmag.com/magpie/?m=2006&w=40
Space Cadet 7 tonight (Tuesday) at the Box.
First THANK YOU cville muse for the props and publicity.
Pather Burn is a temporary name… this group is so fresh and new we don’t have a name yet but need to bill ourselves as something for the gig, and this one comes from the subject of one of the songs. Maybe “Panther Burn but not the one from Memphis” would have been a better name, but it’s too late to switch it up for Wednesday.
Trust us: the music will entertain so, there will be no room left Wednesday night in your worries for us and our potentail slap down by Tav Falco… and by the next time we hit the town we’ll have a fresh new name (and will let cville muse know).
Thanks again and hope to see y’all out on Wednesday.
you’re quite welcome panther burn…we’ll see you there!
