It’s mix tape time once again here on the ol’ blogosphere that is cvilleMUSE!  Care to take a guess what the theme is?

This time around we thought we’d head back to a kinder, gentler time that saw a jellybean lovin’ actor get elected POTUS twice, MTV was born (along with many of you), hippies became yuppies, and really bad hairstyles were all the rage.  Madonna was singing “Like a Virgin“, Michael Jackson was becoming the King of Pop, and Members Only jackets and Adidas tennis shoes were just a few fashion items of choice.  Good lord, that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the 1980’s.

I have a feeling this one could be a wide open affair.  So let’s see what you’ve got.  Music from the ’80’s is our topic of choice.  Send in your song suggestions and don’t forget to add a video URL with you song choice so that we can post the videos as we go along.  The Reagan Years Mix Tape begins with your first choice:

@1. A little excited about the 80’s are we? :) Thanks buddy. I’m sure we can find something in there.

Fellas, I’m actually just stopping in to check on things before shutting my computer down for the night. I will be updating the Mix Tape first thing in the morning. Sorry about the delay. Thanks Brian and five for the selections. Until the dawn I’m saying goodnight.

So I’ve changed my mind at least five times about where to start for my first selection from the 80’s…but in the end, any song that has that “raise your hands over your head and clap” moment has to be included in every mix tape about the 80’s…so here’s Mr. Mister:

@6. This one could go on for days on end. I still have a solid list of ten or so that is ever-growing. BTW-that song is like o my god..so awesome. And we still haven’t even touched on hair bands, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and the deep cuts.

“MTV was born (along with many of you)”

I’ll try to move past that part of your post, Shaun, and share what I was listening to during the 80’s as a *teenager*. Ouch. Some fun. Some moody and brooding. Some that bring back the smell of Aussie Scrunch Hair Spray, the taste of frosted lip gloss and the memory of wearing oversized outfits from the army-navy surplus store that played off of our asymmetrical haircuts. Sheesh.

don’t worry Tracey…I was a teenager too in the 80’s. Although I don’t remember the taste of frosted lip gloss. But I remember tight-rolled jeans. Yikes that was a frightening fashion fad.
