As the Charlottesville Pavilion prepares to welcome country legend Willie Nelson to town this evening, I got to thinking about something:
Let’s say you wanted to throw a little party for you and a couple hundred of your close friends, family, and acquaintances.. To cap it off you’ve decided to get Willie Nelson to perform in order to truly make this the ultimate party of parties. First off, I definitely want to be your friend. Secondly, I hope you have a pretty big backyard and rather deep pockets. But if the space and money aren’t a problem, here’s a list of items you might want to have on hand if Willie is going to play at your little get together:
————
1 gallon of Horizon Brand Organic 2% milk, 1 bunch of organic red grapes, 2 organic peaches, 1 dozen fresh free range eggs, 1 6-pack of Dr. Pepper, 1 pint of peanut oil, enough eats for a “homestyle” sit-down dinner for 32 people (easy on the fried foods!), 1 gallon of freshly squeezed organic orange juice, 2 gallons of George’s Always Active Distilled Aloe Vera, 1 cold watermelon, at least 1 dressing room with a lock and key, and there’s absolutely No Smoking.
This is just a sampling of the items included on Willie Nelson’s concert rider which was obtained and published by the website The Smoking Gun. In addition to including info about stage design, lighting, etc., the contract rider also contains a smorgasbord of personal requests from the artists themselves. While not all requests are approved by the show’s promoter, must are.
The Smoking Gun currently has published obtained riders from over 220 artists. You can check out Willie’s entire (7) page concert rider here. [Note: This is not necessarily the rider which was approved by the folks at Pavilion, but it is a good example of the kinds of things that are sometimes requested by big-time stars.]
Of course you could have just saved yourself the hassle of trying to round up all these items and kept a little change in your pocket by buying a ticket to see Willie Nelson perform this eveing at the Pavilion. Tickets were only $31.50 - $51.50. The concert is all sold out, but at least you wouldn’t have to find a 16 oz. container of Horizon Brand organic cottage cheese. Gates for tonight’s show open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm.

If we buyout the town of all these organic ingredients, what happens to the concert?
They forgot: bag of weed.
@1 I’m sure there’s a plan B and a plan C. I don’t know if you checked out the rider, but it even provides a phone number to call for the George’s Always Active Distilled Aloe Vera in case you can’t find it locally. That stuff must be magical.
@2. Also magical. Plus there’s no smoking?!?
Absolutely magical. Why would anyone need 2 gallons of it? Even for 32 people, that a lot of aloe. Who knows, maybe it’s the secret to the fact that he’s still alive after all these joints, I mean years.
Willie’s cool and all but I’d rather go see MGMT play tonight at the National in Richmond
are you going to Richmond Pink? if so, color me envious.
LOL! All that good stuff and then there is the 6 pack of dr pepper
@7 whoops! that should have read “a freshly squeezed all-organic 6 pack of dr. pepper”. i can’t believe i left that out.
i used to think dr. pepper was the fountain of youth. now i just see high fructose corn syrup.
/still my favorite relapse
