Will Thomas, Sun Domingo @ Outback Lodge

I rolled into the Outback Lodge with a friend Friday night to see a buddy of mine play with the Will Thomas band, and to see Sun Domingo - who I hadn’t seen since they were a quartet years ago. I arrived as Will Thomas Band were starting their set and saw that there was quite a crowd. There was a pretty fantastic light setup there that I have never seen at the Outback before and I was told that Sun Domingo brought it with them to all of their CD release shows. There was talk of some Capitol Records execs there to see them or Will Thomas or someone, but that kind of stuff is a little beyond my spectrum of caring.

Will Thomas band wasn’t bad. Not really my thing - the modern rock with grinding power chords and a Nickelback sort of sound. I’m sure that they may make it on the radio somewhere. Will Thomas is a fresh faced kid and seems like he may do well in the industry if he can write a couple catchy tunes. He brought a lot of people out and a lot of girls - which in his kind of rock and roll is a good sign. I think that with a little polish and some catchier songs ( yea I know I said that already ) he could be a one hit wonder with radio play.

Sun Domingo used to blow me away a couple years ago with their pop songs and with their great covers. It seemed like they were moving out of the Wild Wings circuit which kept them paid and living on touring while doing the ‘artist’ shows in between. They sounded so good with the guys they had before and I was a little skeptical on them sounding thin as a 3 piece. It fit them really well - and the lights only added to the show. They played all original songs of what I heard, and I could imagine these guys on a big stage easily. They seemed out of place on a small stage at the Outback Lodge - with a crowd full of teenyboppers who’d clearly either come to see Will Thomas or Matt Horn. These kids mostly didn’t get it but I assure you - someone will.
