We begin our weekend preview with a plug for a group of our cvilleMUSE buddies who will be making their live debut in Charlottesville on Saturday night. We think you should check ‘em out. The band is called The Moses and it features one of our own amongst its membership (that would be NewmaN for those who haven’t been following along). The Moses part the rock n roll waters on Saturday, June 14 at Saxx Jazz and Blues Lounge in Belmont. Joined on stage by The Vamanos (more friends in this one too) and The Raquellos (you guys can be our friends if you’re not already), doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. Cover is $5 at the door.

As luck would have it I ran into the two Jons from Truman Sparks the other night at my favorite C’ville Mexican restaurant and they gave me the heads up on this one as Truman Sparks, The Peekers, The Happy Bullets, and Birdlips perform at Dust on Sunday. 8pm. $5.

If you don’t make it out to the Virginia Blues and Jazz Festival you’ll still have an opportunity to see one of the featured performers right here in Charlottesville as Tab Benoit, the 2006 Contemporary Blues Male Artist and Blues Entertainer of the Year, takes the Gravity Lounge stage Sunday at 8pm. $20.

Finally, Sunday is Father’s Day so grab dad another tie or power tool, fire up the barbecue, and celebrate with your Pops. My dad is actually going to a music festival in Georgia this weekend. Like father, like son…he too likes to go! As they say, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Happy Father’s Day Pop!

Hey, thanks for the plug, Shaun. Hopefully, I’ll wake up in time for this one.
Hell, it’s the least I could do. Plus, Tom’s photo is too damn cool not to feature it on the ol front page. Somebody set an alarm clock (or three) for NewmaN and make sure he makes it to the show.
oh man this show was so fun. i missed the first band because [pending rant about mas] but the moses and the vamanos crushed it. i can’t feel my face.
The Raquellos were surprisingly great. I sorta thought the accordian would be gimicy, but it wasn’t. They brought a lot of energy and had great timing. Backyard stomp dance music. I was really impressed. The other bands were really good too, I thought. Especially the Vamanos. I’d go see those guys anytime. C’ville’s next true indie band. It was too bad the cops came and made everyone stop early. Oh well, next time, we’ll find a place where we won’t bother anyone.
