The Hamner Theater

hamnercabaret.jpgOk, a new theater was put on my radar this week: Hamner Theater of Nelson County. Here are a few upcoming events for them. If you’ve seen shows at this theater or been involved at any point, feel free to post about your experiences.

On June 14 at 7:30pm, they will be hosting TigerLily as part of the Hamner Theater Cabaret series. On July 18, they will be hosting Good Foot Dance Company.

On July 14 and 17 at 7:00pm, they are holding auditions for their fall production of Richard III. This production is being billed as part of the first Nelson County Shakespeare Festival. For a copy of the script and casting requirements, visit their website. Richard III is one of Shakespeare’s history plays, presenting challenges of allegory, references to other history plays in Shakespeare’s canon, and the sheer length of the script (it is second in length only to Hamlet).

This production of Richard III will be directed by Mary Coy. Ms. Coy has served as a Shakespeare consultant to Nelson Middle School, worked with the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, and holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Mary Baldwin College.

EB - thanks for the mention!

I see that no one has responded, but there was a bit of talk about us over on your sister site last winter - (scroll down to comments 21 - 27) - http://cvillain.com/2008/02/22/weekend-preview-feb-22-to-feb-25-2008/

Just wanted to point out that there will be one more chance to catch Poe & All That Jazz, next Thursday, the 10th, at the Hamner (enroute to the Capital Fringe).

To quote 40 Ounce - “Jon Cobb was Poe. Powerful, crystalline delivery of difficult material, with nice elements of physical acting and even a bit of hoofing. Patti Finn, who glided between several roles, vamped convincingly and belted out the standards. And Bob Bennetta, pianist, and Jim Ryan on bass were superb.

We Cvillians are fortunate to have so much talent at our doorstep. Support your local theater!”

Would love to see you down there - stop by to say hello if you do…

    Nancy,
    Hamner Theater
