Two great bands, one great night.
Here’s another upcoming concert that you’ll definitely want to mark on your calendars as the Charlottesville Pavilion welcomes the Drive By Truckers, with opening act The Avett Brothers , to town on Saturday, September 20. Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 20th.
The Drive By Truckers are currently touring behind their most recent album Brighter Than Creation’s Dark (New West) while the hard-travelling Avett Brothers are set to release their latest effort The Second Gleam EP (Ramseur) on July 22.

Both bands are no strangers to Charlottesville but this will be our first opportunity to see them sharing the same stage. (DBT last played in town in April of 2006 when they kicked off their Blessing and a Curse tour at the Pavilion with opener Robert Randolph. The Avetts rolled through C’ville just last September, playing before a sold-out crowd at the Satellite Ballroom).
You can check out videos for the Avett Brothers’ “Die Die Die” from their most recent album Emotionalism as well as a live performance of “The Man I Shot” from the Drive By Truckers below.

On a personal note: For those who haven’t been keeping score, it looks like my little summer concert wish list is turning out to be eerily prophetic. So far I’ve got four out of six. Is someone out there looking over my shoulder?

Newman, this one is going to be off the chain! Two of my favorites together! Can I get a big YeeHaw?!?
Wow, Avett Brothers twice this concert season how awesome! Sarah & I are going to Innsbrook pavilion to see them open for Blues Traveler next week.
oh man, i agree with newman.
did Drive By Dumpers open for DMB in Chicago when they dropped a busload of crap on a boat?
Shaun, that’s an impressive foresight!
Sweet! Now just give me some Old Crow and most of my currently touring favorites will be covered.
