Well we haven’t heard a lot of reports from the weekend past, so I was curious as to what events filled your social calendar over the weekend. And yes, the weather was horrible!!!
Anyone go see Radiohead over the weekend? I just read the blog post from the guys at NPR’s All Song’s Considered and they had high praise for the band and considerably less praise for the venue and the weather.
How was the Rock Out, Dine Out benefit for the Music Resource Center? Fridays After Five? My Morning Jacket on SNL? Doc Watson at the Paramount? Local shows? Road trip concerts?
In the end, maybe you were making final preparations on your ark like Thor over at cVillain because of all the rain? Just curious. High times, good times, wet or dry. Tell us what we missed or what you saw.

For the record, I turned down tickets to see the Drive By Truckers/Dexateens at the 9:30 Club on Friday and Saturday. (I know I’m an idiot, but I’m cool with it). Instead my gf and I went to Sneak Reviews on Friday and rented “Once”, which I can definitely recommend. Saturday afternoon we hit the road to see our Moms for Mother’s Day. Got back late in the evening on Sunday, just in time to catch the Dexateens show at Outback. (which if you haven’t read my recent post…rocked!)
I saw Iron Man on Sunday in the middle of the deluge. Quite entertaining, but I’m still a little peeved about the cut Ghostface cameo. Also, the Burger King product placement is hilarious in that the chain has already moved on to promoting the new Indiana Jones flick.
I went. Yes, the weather was awful, and Nissan Pavilion is a hellhole to try and get in and out of, but it was absolutely worth it.
My review, as well as a colleague’s, can be found here:

I saw Doc and David Holt. Having just seen Doc two weeks before, I was actually more interested in hearing him talk about his childhood than hearing his music. But I was clearly in the minority, and Doc was in great form. My only complaints with the show were the sound engineer did no service to Holt’s banjo. He treated the open back banjo more like a bluegrass banjo (which has a resonator, and is therefore much louder), and did not have the levels anywhere high enough to hear the five string much of the time. Secondly, Holt should have stuck with the banjo and not done as much singing of the blues. Unfortunately, he instead played too much guitar and steel guitar (perhaps because Doc’s grandson was not there, who ordinarily accompanies Doc on guitar), which then meant Holt played and sang the blues. I have no problem with a white guy singing the blues, but there was no emotion or soul behind the lyrics. Fortunately the stories from Doc (and his obvious joy at covering a couple of Elvis tunes per a request from the audience) made up for the engineering and Holt issues.
Thanks Horatio for the report from the Paramount. I seriously considered going myself for awhile there, but after six straight years of Merlefest, I figured I could pass on this one this time around. Ran into a buddy at the Dexateen show who saw Doc as well on Saturday and he said hearing Doc tell the tales was a definite highlight.
Totally rocked out to Radiohead Sunday night at Nissan. The show was great! Nissan was underwater to say the least. Upon arriving, my friends, wife and I parked in what was known as parking-lake A. If I knew we would be out on the high seas in a rain/wind storm, I would have prepared a little different and brought a complete rain suit instead of just a coat. nonetheless with dedication to the live show, we shared yet another memorable experience!
Sounds like neither rain, sleet, nor snow will stop the mail from being delivered or Radiohead fans from seeing the band live. Besides, how long can a case of pneumonia last? Two weeks, three weeks? The memories are forever. Good to hear the show was worth whatever the cost. I only wish I had been their in the rain with you guys!
So, quite a few people were unable to attend the show because Nissan Pavilion wouldn’t let them actually enter the grounds and park. Whoops.
Most recent turn of events apparently includes Nissan offering some folks lawn seats for the NJ show. Doh!

now that really sucks. are they going to pay for the gas to get there too? these days thats almost the same as buying another ticket.
that is BS. i saw that someone started a petition to try to get Radiohead to play Verizon Center in DC to make up for the fiasco. yeah, right.
A buddy at work got back and told me about the fiasco at the concert. He was about 1 mile away from the Pavillion when they started diverting traffic. He said there must have been a couple thousand people who were forced to sit in traffic and drive the detour AROUND the pavillion for 4 hours instead of being allowed to park. Apparently once the show was close to ending they told everyone to just go home. The old “there’s nothing to see here” routine - he didn’t even get to park! I’d be livid, glad I decided not to go, but I wouldn’t drive to NJ.
