Poop isn’t art? Not at UVa…

Just saw this on C-VILLE’s website:

“UVA censors art show; controversy over fake poop”

A former student at UVa, Irwin Berman, decided to honor an old school mascot by making a short film featuring the dog and tying it in with a stool topped with fake blue and orange droppings.He was then going to give copies of the film away for donations to the school’s Art Museum and Art Department. However, UVa quickly pulled the exhibit, deeming it inappropriate and it now has been exiled to downtown gallery Les Yeux Du Monde and will be there throughout May.

Sheesh. It’s not like it was an abortion exhibit, it was a silly pile of doggie doo. Props to LYDM for being openminded. Go see it tomorrow during First Fridays from 5:30 to 7:30. Let us know if you are offended.

    don’t put it back. just don’t censor the next time, or if you really want to be nice, put the picture under a link that says it’s not for children or something. the last thing we need is to compete with the university for the title of who can violate the first amendment the most times. for real. especially because this is a discussion about art and FREE SPEECH.
