A singer/songwriter, a bluesman, and a honky tonker.  Three local musicians who represent some of the best that Charlottesville has to offer in their particular genres will put on three great shows in two days as Paul Curreri (left), Eli Cook (center), and Jim Waive and the Young Divorcees (right) all bring their musical talents to local stages on Thursday and Friday.

Paul Curreri kicks things off on Thursday with his performance at the Gravity Lounge.  Paul is coming off a tour of Europe back in February and March and U.S. West Coast swing in April and Thurdsay’s show will mark Paul’s first performance in Charlottesville in quite some time.  His show at the Gravity will be a chance for local fans to welcome home one of Charlottesville’s brightest singer/songwriters.  Joe Pollock and David Jacobs open.  7:30pm.  $8.

You can kick off your weekend in Charlottesville at Friday’s After Five with the Eli Cook Band at the Charlottesville Pavilion.  Eli Cook, the twenty-one year old blues phenom from Nelson County, has a voice and a sound that is much older than his age.  And while the term ’destined for greatness’ can be a heavy weight to bear, after seeing him live you’ll know it’s well-deserved.  Joined by Eric Yates on bass and Jordan Marchini on drums, the Eli Cook Band fills the springtime air with a heavy dose of the blues at this week’s Fridays after Five.  Gates open at 5:30pm.  FREE.

“You’re looking at country”.  That’s how Jim Waive was described in the C-VILLE’s cover story back in February just as Jim Waive and his band the Young Divorcees were set to release their latest album Strike a Match.  Looking at country is just the tip of the iceberg.  Listening to the country is where it’s really at when it comes to this honky tonkin’ quartet.  Joined by Charlie Bell on pedal steel and dobro, Jen Fleisher on bass, and Anna Matijasic on fiddle, Jim Waive and crew return to the scene of their CD release party blowout back in February as they bring the country noise for the country girls and  boys to the Satellite Ballroom on Friday.  Shannon Worrell and the St. Ours Brothers open.  Doors at 8pm.  $6 adv/$8 door.

Oh my goodness, you gotta love living in C’ville!
