In case you haven’t already heard, the ink is now dry on the deal that will indeed bring a CVS Pharmacy to the UVA Corner. The store will occupy the space that currently houses Plan 9 Music, Just Curry, Higher Grounds Coffee, and the Satellite Ballroom.
Terry Vassalos, owner of the Anderson Brothers Building which currently is home to the four previously listed local businesses, has confirmed the deal is done with NBC 29. The story also confirms that efforts are also currently underway to locate a new home in Charlottesville for the Satellite Ballroom. No word yet on when CVS will begin to move in or when it plans to open its doors.

This is so sad! Isn’t there a CVS less than two miles away?
I hate CVS. The orange and tan always makes me want to toss my cookies, and the line is always too long to purchase any pepto. It is truly hell on earth (and the Dupont Circle CVS is the devil’s toilet).
In all seriousness, this significantly affects the look and feel of a historic landmark. I would think that there would be zoning requirements to maintain the design and character UVA Corner. Is there not? Can we petition this? That nasty orange sign will cast a noxious hue over the campus.
the developers probably have to go through BAR or whatever that board for architecture is called. and i hope it fails hard, because those other convenience stores on the corner are going to suffer if it doesn’t.
This just doesn’t seem like a terribly smart business move on the part of CVS. It’s going to take buckets of cash to convert the building (particularly given the standards the BAR will set for maintaining the “look” of the corner). Delivering goods to sell at that location is going to be a complete nightmare. You’re pretty much stuck with foot traffic, due to lack of parking. I don’t see this being a successful location for them, money-wise.
