It’s Official!!!
Pollstar.com earlier today posted the announcement that Modest Mouse is coming to Charlottesville and performing at the end of June at the Pavilion. The show date is Sunday, June 29. The show date has now officially been announced on the Pavilion’s website.
Looks like I can cross one of the bands off of my Summer Wish List:
My Morning Jacket
Andrew Bird
Modest Mouse
Drive By Truckers
Los Lobos
The Avett Brothers
[UPDATE: I went ahead and updated the entire post following confirmation from the Pavilion]
[UPDATE: Monday, 12:15am. At some point over the weekend the Modest Mouse announcement was removed from both the Pavilion’s website as well as from Poll Star’s listings?? This may have been done to make sure all the i’s have been dotted and the t’s have been crossed. We’ll keep you updated.]

Hell yes.
Oh, and it’s on the Pavilion website now.
I’ve never seen them live, but caught some video on teh interwebs. They’re a band who, on record, would seem like one of the best live acts ever; but it seems that Isaac B. plays guitar (lead guitar! Johnny Marr, you go play rhythm!) the whole time, which seems to really detract from his ability to pull off the manic, half-insane, Bobcat-Goldthwait vibe. They seemed shockingly bland. I had friends who went to last year’s Virgin Fest and said the same thing… I didn’t believe them at the time, but now I do.
That said, if they play here, I’ll probably go…
Yeaay - wow, maybe this actually works. In no particular oder, I would love…
Cat Power
Elbow
Band of Horses (I want them back)
The Dodo’s
Jose Gonzalez
Rilo Kiley
Dropkick Murphy’s
The Shins
I can dream
YAY!! I love Modest Mouse and Tom Peloso. See you at Feist tonight!
Modest Mouse rock. Their beats are unique and would love to see them live. Let’s hope Drive by Truckers make their way down as well.
@4. I saw the Shins in Berkeley,CA back in October. I’ll I can say is…!!!!! It would be wonderful to see them in Cville!
@4
Did you see the Dodos at the Tea house a few weeks ago. God they’re great.
missed it.
where is this on the Pavilion site? i don’t see it
it’s been taken off the Pavilion site. it was posted on their site as Just Announced on Friday (along with Dierks Bentley in September). the announcement has also been removed from Poll Star’s listings. ???
@lolo: i can see jose gonzalez coming here. i just missed seeing him last month in north carolina… sold out show, unfortunately. i wish he would come to the states - and near us - more often!
i heard that cat power was kind of terrible when she was here, but then again, she’s changed a lot recently (also hearsay).
Ees not fair! Vee vant ze Modest Mouse!
Uprising. C’est not fair !
very interesting! one of the events I’m covering that’s coming up in June is the Virginia Jazz and Blues Fest over in Bath County. They’ve got a great line-up and we will be giving away tickets on the site. That’s news for later…but here’s the news for now…one of the bands scheduled to perform at Virginia Jazz and Blues is the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. I saw them in Asheville, NC at couple of years ago and they are fantastic. I just popped on their site to get some info and I found an interesting little tidbit…
Dirty Dozen Brass Band opening for Modest Mouse on June 29 at the Charlottesville Pavilion. Just thought I’d share.
@8 and 9
I’m glad you guys were there too. Knocked me out. Last summer they played there to about 10 people and blew me away then too. I do hope Modest Mouse plays at the Pavilion.
They’re coming…if they don’t I’ll eat my hat, film it, and post it on YouTube for all to see!
@3 JOHNNY MARR IS PLAYING WITH MODEST MOUSE? wtf! Is he touring with them? I’ve got to go clean my pants now, thanks a lot….
johnny marr is an official member of the band…he joined right before their last album
I just read some NME interview with him about it (googled it after reading it here). He is probably one of my favorite guitarists of all time.
The way I understand it, Isaac Brock just started talking to the press about how Johnny Marr SHOULD be in the band… and then some journalist asked Marr about it… and he just eventually kind of agreed. It was like a Jedi Mind Trick.
Anyway. Like I said, the stuff I’ve seen (and heard about secondhand) doesn’t look awesome. Marr’s talent seems underutilized. Regardless, I will be there if they come - “We Were Dead…” was one of my favorite records of last year, and dammit, it SHOULD be awesome live.
