Weekend Reminders: T.G.I.F.

Charlottesville Pavilion

The sounds of live music at the Charlottesville Pavilion returns as Fridays After Five kicks off the weekend and the Pavilion’s concert series with The Sons of Bill jump starting the first of many TGIF’s to come over the coming months.  We’ve got all the details on tonight’s Fridays After Five show as well as the scoop on the Satellite Ballroom’s double-bill featuring Sarah White and 6 Day Bender in our Friday Feature

For the rest of the weekend’s happenings…

FRIDAY, 04.18

  • The Eli Cook Band brings the blues to Outback Lodge on Friday.  Book of Job opens.  9:30pm.  $5!!

  • Fresh off of opening for Tea Leaf Green, the Kings of Belmont reign supreme at R2 inside Rapture.  10pm.  $5.

  • The Honey Dewdrops perform at the Spruce Street Gallery in Nellysford on Friday as part of Nelson County’s Rural Health Outreach Program benefit.  Benefit starts at 6pm and includes food, art, and a silent auction.  The Dewdrops perform at 8pm.  $45 (this price covers the admission price for the entire benefit).  I recently saw these guys open for Sarah Lee Guthrie and they are amazing!

  • The Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar hosts The Easy Tease at 9:30pm on Friday.  This quartet from New York is yet another band adhering to my theory that the banjo is the new “it” instrument of choice!  $5.

  • The Matthew Wilmer Quartet funks the fusion and more at Maya on Friday at 10:30pm.  No cover.

  • Christian Breeden of American Dumpster goes it alone Friday at Miller’s.  10:30pm.  No cover.

SATURDAY, 04.19

  •  Three for the price of one with Jimmy and the Teasers, Los Rudos, and Pinche Gringo at Outback Lodge on Saturday.  Garage/rock/punk.  9:30pm.  18 +/age.  $7 - $9
    .
  • The Cashmere Jungle Lords are at Fellini’s on Saturday.  10pm.  $3.
    .
  • Jim Waive takes a one night hiatus from the Divorcees to join Swing Piggy at Uncle Charlie’s in Crozet on Saturday.  9:30pm.  $5.
    .
  • Walkin’ hard.  Marshall Crenshaw, who wrote the title track for the film Walk Hard:  The Dewey Cox  Story, is an acclaimed singer-songwriter who’s been at it for over 25 years.  You can catch him live at the Gravity Lounge on Saturday.  7pm.  $20.  The Jen Chapin Trio opens.  [Also Marshall Crenshaw will be appearing in-store at Plan 9’s Albemarle Square location Saturday at 3pm as part of National Record Store Day.]

SUNDAY, 04/20

  • What better way to wrap up your weekend than with a “smoking” hot show at the Gravity Lounge on Sunday.  RobinElla, whose most recent album Solace for the Lonely has been described as “Billie Holliday infused sultry country”, should not be missed.  If that isn’t enough the local dynamic duo of Morwenna Lasko and Jay Pun are also scheduled to perform.  But wait there’s more!! as I’m told North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Thad Cockrell opens.  This is going to be the joint!  7pm. $10adv/$15 door.
    .
  • And finally a reminder.  If you’re a local artist performing in Charlottesville over the weekend and we’ve failed to mention your show, check out our FIND ME HERE post and let our readers know where we can find you!
