The Song of the Day, 04/10

How ’bout a taste of cool for what has been, up to this point, a very cool and at times, downright chilly week.  The Song of the Day comes from the Dave Brubeck Quartet, featuring Paul Desmond on sax, Joe Morello on drums, Gene Wright on bass, and of course, Dave Brubeck on piano.  From 1961 here’s the Dave Brubeck Quartet with “Take Five“.

Of interest for Charlottesville jazz fans, a couple of performance on the calendar for your Thursday evening:

  • One Giant Step Quartet performs at enoteca tonight.  8-11pm.  No cover.

  • And of course there’s Charlottesville’s own jazz master, John D’earth, with his assembled jazz ensemble, tonight and every Thursday night at Miller’s.  10:30pm.  No cover.

Ahhh…what a great song to wake up to. Soothing and bright. Thank you, Shaun. :)

One of my faves as well. In addition to hosting the Morning Show M-F for a non-com radio station for five years, I also hosted a six-hour Friday night show that spanned the musical spectrum. For the last couple years of that show, I would always close with Take Five.
