Part 1: Learning to fly… again.

I’ve had dreams of playing huge venues in front of enormous crowds, naked college girls throwing themselves at me, piles of money and piles of drugs… on top of piles of money… on top of piles of drugs. You get the picture. It’s a dream that has long since dissipated into mowing my enormous yard, naked babies throwing up on me, and piles of laundry and empty beer cans… on top of piles of laundry. It’s not over for me, though. There’s still hope. As long as a man can pass out, he can still dream, right?

My wife bought me guitar as a wedding present….a REALLY awesome, custom made, beautiful guitar. She got me exactly what I had “hypothetically” asked for. Bless her heart. It came with a stipulation, though. I have to play it. Not just play it around the house. She wants me to jam, to rock, to perform. She wants me to show it off… in public… on stage. She knows and understands how it makes me feel. It’s a rush. Being the focal point of attention of the entire room, given the keys to drive a party to shakedown street or to crash it into a tree. It’s a lot of pressure and responsibility. I love how creating music makes me feel. I love how creating music makes other people feel. And, I won’t lie, I love the attention. Apparently, my wife appreciates all of this enough to buy me this beautiful guitar, let me dedicate a room in our house for a band, and push me hard to get out there and play. She’s great.

I have a long history of playing music in bands in whatever town I’m living in. And I’m doing what I can to do that here in Charlottesville. It’s my goal to try and bring a different insight to this site from the inside of the music scene as I try to make something of the talent I may or may not have. Hopefully, you’ll care what I have to say. If you read something you like, lemme know.

    Now to some serious matters. It sounds like you have a lovely wife. She hopefully loves music as much as we all do, and I look forward to your posts.

    Please call me five… Why? Coz nothin’ beats a “HIGH 5!” I love 5PM- the best hour in a work day! and, it’s a pretty cool number.

    FYI: “Newman” comes from an old silly song about a cat…. the lyric was:

    My friends, they call me “Newman”,
    And I call my friends “meow”.
    Trapped under a laundry basket,
    And I can’t find my way out.

    I feel like that sometimes. Like a bad song lyric.
