The My Morning Jacket Lobbying Committee

Now that the Pavilion has announced a large chunk of their upcoming concert schedule, I feel as if it’s time I officially announce my one-man lobbying campaign to get My Morning Jacket to come to Charlottesville this summer and blow the baggie off the Pavilion.   We’ve had the Flaming Lips here and we’ve had Wilco here two years in a row.  It’s time people, it’s time for My Morning Jacket.

Early last week ARTISTdirect announced the finalized track listing for the new MMJ  album Evil Urges, which is due to hit stores on June 2.  I am hoping that a new album is a precursor to a full blown tour later this year.

As it stands now only a hanful of MMJ show dates have been announced including Mexico City on 4/12, the Coachella Music Festival on 4/27, Bonnaroo on 6/12 - 15, and Radio City Music Hall in NYC on 6/20.

In the meantime, I’ll keep my positive MMJ vibrations flowing with the hopes that maybe, just maybe we’ll see them here this summer.  With that in my mind, here’s a little something from last year’s Lollapalooza.  It’s a pretty cool music video and a unique way to capture a live performance.

Who would you like to see come to town?

We had My Morning Jacket a couple years ago at Starr Hill. I don’t remember going but I heard it was stellar.

i posed a simlar question a few months ago:

as far as pavilion shows go, heres my top 6: (keeping in mind my prices would be lower than the $51.00+ for willie nelson)

    1. arcade fire
    2. guster (come on…. perfect for a summer evening)
    3. the decmebrists
    4. the shins
    5. the roots
    6. death cab for cutie

i think all 5 would sell out (provided ticket prices were reasonable) and cater to a different crowd.

@indie dork. crazy how similar our lists are. my gf and I were just talking about this. between arcade fire, the decemberists, and the shins we are on the same wavelength. actually guster is probably the only band on your list that i might pass on (but that’s just me).

we actually saw the shins this past october at the greek theater in berkeley, ca and they were fabulous. the venue itself is fabulous as well.

i would add to my own list:

    1. andrew bird and bobby bare jr. double bill (or maybe just lampchop)
    2. modest mouse
    3. a pairing of the following: calexico, new pornographers, or the sadies
    4. josh ritter (with a full band)
    5. los lobos

I’ve heard through a decent source that there’s a good chance MMJ will be coming to the Pav this year. It’s not 100%, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

    My top 5:

    1. MMJ
    2. Animal Collective/Panda Bear
    3. Drive By Truckers
    4. Modest Mouse
    5. Arcade Fire

Looks like the lobbying committee effort is growing one man, woman, and child at a time. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Truckers come to town either. Did you happen to catch Patterson Hood’s solo show at Starr Hill in December of 06? It was amazing!! Welcome to the site ice!
